What Wang Chuqin, Ma Long, Möregårdh, Fan Zhendong and Harimoto play with, and the closest versions you can buy in the UK

What equipment do the top table tennis players use in 2026?

Most of the world's best players use a carbon or fast wooden blade with a tacky Chinese rubber or a hard European-style tensor rubber. The Chinese stars are reported to use DHS Hurricane blades with National Hurricane 3, Truls Möregårdh uses Stiga, and Fan Zhendong and Tomokazu Harimoto use Butterfly. Set-ups change, so the details below were last checked in October 2026.

Pro set-ups at a glance

  • Wang Chuqin (reported): personal DHS Q968 (Hurricane King) blade; National Hurricane 3 blue sponge forehand; softer Hurricane 3 backhand. Closest versions are stocked at Spinfinity.
  • Ma Long (reported): DHS W968 (Hurricane Long 5 National); Hurricane 3 National 42° forehand; Hurricane 3 Neo 37° backhand. Stocked.

Fan Zhendong and Tomokazu Harimoto (Butterfly players)

Both players are sponsored by Butterfly. Spinfinity does not stock Butterfly blades or rubbers, so we describe their set-ups for information only.

Fan Zhendong (reported, last checked Oct 2026): his blade is the Butterfly Fan Zhendong ALC. His rubbers depend on the source. The Borussia Düsseldorf listing gives Hurricane 3 National (blue sponge) on the forehand and Dignics 09C on the backhand, while reports from September 2026 (PingSunday) say Zyre 03 on both sides. Fan withdrew from the ITTF world ranking on 31 December 2024 and joined Borussia Düsseldorf on 1 July 2026.

Tomokazu Harimoto: Butterfly's sponsorship page (as of 11 October 2025) lists the Harimoto Tomokazu Innerforce Super ALC blade with Zyre 03 on both sides.

These are not copies of the Butterfly equipment, but they are reasonable choices if you want a similar style of set-up:

Bonus: the Lebrun brothers and Hugo Calderano

According to Racquet Rank, these three players use equipment we stock:

Should you copy a pro's set-up?

Usually not exactly. Professional sheets are often boosted or customised on tour, so a retail sheet will not play quite the same as the one in a pro's case (TableTennisReview). Fast carbon blades and hard rubbers also need strong, consistent technique; without it they tend to punish small errors rather than help you.

A sensible approach is to stay in the same family but choose a softer version. For example, pick a Helix Platinum M or H rather than XH, or pair Hurricane 3 on the forehand with a softer rubber on the backhand. If you do buy a pro-style blade, you can assemble it yourself with suitable table tennis glue.

FAQ

What blade does Ma Long use?

Ma Long is reported to use the DHS W968, the Hurricane Long 5 National, with a flared handle. We stock the W968 Ma Long personal blade along with the retail Hurricane Long 5 and the 6-Gold Hurricane Long 5 W968S, so you can choose how closely you want to follow his set-up.

What rubbers does Wang Chuqin use?

Wang Chuqin is reported to use National Hurricane 3 with a blue sponge on his forehand and a softer, boosted Hurricane 3 with an orange sponge on his backhand. Some lists name Hurricane 3 Neo National for the backhand. We stock his named forehand and backhand player-version rubbers.

What bat does Truls Möregårdh use?

Truls Möregårdh uses the Stiga Cybershape Carbon CWT Truls Edition with a straight handle. Stiga lists Helix Platinum XH 2.2 on both sides, after he switched from DNA Platinum XH in 2025. The blade and the full Helix Platinum range are available at Spinfinity.

What does Fan Zhendong play with in 2026?

Fan Zhendong is reported to use the Butterfly Fan Zhendong ALC (last checked Oct 2026). His club listing gives Hurricane 3 National on the forehand and Dignics 09C on the backhand, while September 2026 reports say Zyre 03 on both sides. We don't stock Butterfly, but DHS Hurricane blades and Hurricane 3 are good alternatives.

What equipment does Harimoto use?

Butterfly lists Tomokazu Harimoto with the Harimoto Tomokazu Innerforce Super ALC blade and Zyre 03 on both sides (as of 11 October 2025). Spinfinity doesn't sell Butterfly equipment. If you want a similar style, look at our DHS Hurricane blades and Stiga Helix Platinum rubbers.

Can I buy the same Hurricane 3 the Chinese team uses?

You can buy the National and player-version sheets, but they may still not match what players use. Pro sheets are often boosted on tour, and retail sheets play differently out of the packet. Our player-version listings are the closest option; standard Hurricane III is the everyday retail version.

Is a pro set-up good for a beginner or intermediate?

Usually not. Fast carbon blades and hard rubbers need strong technique, and they make errors more costly. Most developing players are better off choosing a softer version from the same family, such as Helix Platinum M or H, and a less demanding blade until their strokes are consistent.

What's the difference between Hurricane 3 and Hurricane 3 Neo?

Both share the tacky Hurricane 3 topsheet. Neo pairs it with DHS's pre-tuned NEO sponge, which our supplier listing describes as adding speed and stability with no extra boosting. Standard Hurricane 3 uses the regular sponge and tends to feel stiffer out of the packet.
