Wang Manyu retains WTT China Smash title with 4-0 win over chopper Hitomi Sato
Beijing, 11 October 2026: the world No.1 claims her fourth Grand Smash crown

China's Wang Manyu successfully defended her women's singles title at WTT China Smash in Beijing on Sunday 11 October, beating Japan's Hitomi Sato 4-0 (11-2, 11-8, 11-3, 11-9) in the final.

The top seed raced through the opening game 11-2. In the second, with Wang leading 9-8, the expedite rule came into force: the server has to win the point within 13 strokes or the receiver gets it. Wang won the next two points and never looked back. It was her fourth WTT Grand Smash title.

Wang went into the final with a 6-1 head-to-head record against Sato, but the one defeat was recent: Sato won 3-0 in the round of 32 at WTT United States Smash in July. "I had a stable mindset and resolutely executed my tactics," Wang said afterwards.

History for Sato

Defeat still left Sato with a place in the record books. She became the first chopper to reach a WTT Grand Smash final, beating China's Chen Xingtong 2-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9, 11-8 in the semi-finals. Wang had beaten Miwa Harimoto in five games in the other semi.

Wang also kept the women's doubles title with Kuai Man, beating Miwa Harimoto and Hina Hayata 13-11, 11-2, 9-11, 11-7 the day before.

Kit corner

Sato's short-pimpled backhand is the Nittaku DO Knuckle, confirmed by two independent equipment databases. Hina Hayata, beaten in the doubles final, plays the Nittaku Hina Hayata H2.
